Welcome Back!

I hope you all had a WONDERFUL relaxing spring break!

I am looking forward to finishing the year with our study of the Civil War and Reconstruction! I am also really excited about our work in Core Extension working on the research projects and reading Bang and Chains.

If you need any extra time at the Media Center to work on any of your school work--or even just to have some time on the computer to practice your keyboarding skills!--I have made a special hand out with Media Center hours. Please click here to see this!

Continue work on classroom timeline

Homework:

Pretend you are a teenager living in Boston at the time of the Boston Massacre and the Boston Tea Party. First, decide if you are a Loyalist or a Patriot. Second, choose if you wish to write about the Boston Massacre OR the Boston Tea Party. Once you’ve decided, write a letter to a friend (at least 2 paragraphs) describing the event from your point of view. Talk about how you feel about the events taking place. Be sure to include 3-5 specific facts about the event in your letter.

Homework:

1. Label one spiral notebook with permanent marker: on the cover write your first and last name, and write social studies (if you prefer to use a 3-ring binder instead of a spiral notebook, you may. Just be sure that you have one binder that is just for social studies)

2. Label one 2-pocket folder with permanent marker: on the cover write your first and last name, and write “social studies”

3. Make sure you have a safe place for your history book at home! Be ready to tell me where you are going to be keeping it!

A little about me

I have been teaching for over 15 years. At first, I taught college students. For the past 5 years, I taught high school students in social studies and language arts. I have two kids, a 7th grader and a freshman in high school. I also have a dog named Scout! When I'm not at work or hanging out with my kids, I love love love to read, go running, and travel. Some of the best books I've read recently include The Hunger Games, Chasing Fire and the Harry Potter series. A few things I wish I could do more often include going to Cubs games and attending musicals such as Wicked and Billy Elliot!
