Weekly syllabus 11/15/10

There is NO HOMEWORK this week!

I want you to use this week to make up any recent late work that you might not have turned in, such as the Chapter 8 sections 1 and 2 questions that were due last Friday (11/12) and Monday 11/15. If you turn these in before Friday, you will still get 1/2 credit.

Please note: I will not accept ANY LATE WORK AFTER FRIDAY November 19th for the first trimester.

I hope that you are able to enjoy this week off of homework!

P.S. We will start a very exciting new experience on Wednesday in class!

OR

Write a one paragraph protest speech against one of the three acts mentioned in this section (5-8 sentences long minimum)

In class: Visual analysis of primary text –Boston Massacre

Continue work on classroom timeline

Homework:

Pretend you are a teenager living in Boston at the time of the Boston Massacre and the Boston Tea Party. First, decide if you are a Loyalist or a Patriot. Second, choose if you wish to write about the Boston Massacre OR the Boston Tea Party. Once you’ve decided, write a letter to a friend (at least 2 paragraphs) describing the event from your point of view. Talk about how you feel about the events taking place. Be sure to include 3-5 specific facts about the event in your letter.

Read “Life at the Time: A Spirit of Protest” very carefully (pp. 154-155). If you were a colonists at that time, which method of protest would you choose and why? Respond by writing at least 5-8 sentences.

Case Study: French Law concerning religious garb in public schools

Homework:

1. Label one spiral notebook with permanent marker: on the cover write your first and last name, and write social studies (if you prefer to use a 3-ring binder instead of a spiral notebook, you may. Just be sure that you have one binder that is just for social studies)

2. Label one 2-pocket folder with permanent marker: on the cover write your first and last name, and write “social studies”

3. Make sure you have a safe place for your history book at home! Be ready to tell me where you are going to be keeping it!

A little about me

I have been teaching for over 15 years. At first, I taught college students. For the past 5 years, I taught high school students in social studies and language arts. I have two kids, a 7th grader and a freshman in high school. I also have a dog named Scout! When I'm not at work or hanging out with my kids, I love love love to read, go running, and travel. Some of the best books I've read recently include The Hunger Games, Chasing Fire and the Harry Potter series. A few things I wish I could do more often include going to Cubs games and attending musicals such as Wicked and Billy Elliot!
